Peter is a Canadian Cinematographer who’s body of work includes twenty feature
films and twelve successful American television pilots. He has been nominated for
three ASC awards for the pilots: Smallville, Millennium and Haunted, with the
latter two also receiving CSC nominations.
As a teenager he shot his first films on his father's 8 mm camera. By the age of
19, Peter was already shooting news and commercials for a local television
station and then CBC French News where he was one of the last cameramen to shoot
on 16 mm reversal. Peter was soon making a name for himself shooting award winning
music videos, documentaries, and short films.
He then photographed three low budget features that launched his narrative career.
Francis Damberger’s Genie award winning Solitaire, John Pozer’s black and white film,
The Grocer’s Wife, selected to open “Critics’ Week” at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival
and Mina Shum’s Double Happiness which screened at Sundance and earned Peter a
Genie nomination for “Best Cinematography”.
Other feature credits include: Surveillance, Official Selection Cannes & Camerimage
2008, for director Jennifer Lynch and A Street Cat Named Bob, based on James
Bowen’s best seller for director Roger Spottiswoode. Peter was also a camera operator
and 2nd Unit DP on the Oscar-winning Brokeback Mountain.
For television, he lensed the pilot and first season of AMC’s critically acclaimed series
The Killing and pilot episodes for several high profile series including Betrayal,
Smallville, Millennium and Dark Angel.
Peter is known for his beautiful, sometimes haunting cinematography. His easy going
style and deep commitment to his work have made him a sought after collaborator with
many directors including: Patty Jenkins, Agnieszka Holland, Roger Spottiswoode , Bill
Pullman, David Nutter, Jennifer Lynch, Mick Jackson, Mina Shum, Veena Sud and
Francis Damberger.
